BIOGRAPHY

Having performed at all of the world’s major opera houses, baritone Carlo Guelfi, is regarded today as one of the world’s premier baritones. Born in Rome, he began his studies with his uncle Renato Guelfi at a very young age. In 1983 he won the Aureliano Pertile international vocal competition and immediately embarked on a brilliant international career. His name soon appeared in the programs of La Scala in Milan (La Gioconda,Tosca,Adriana LecouvreurAida), the Metropolitan Opera (Rigoletto, Otello), Carnegie Hall (I PuritaniGiovanna d’ArcoErnani) Vienna State Opera (Il trovatoreMacbeth), as well as the opera houses of Rome, Florence, Bologna, Genoa, Venice, Zurich, Munich, Madrid, Barcelona the Arena di Verona, Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome, Salzburg Festival, and the New National Foundation in Tokyo. Mr. Guelfi has collaborated with some of the world’s most renowned conductors including Claudio Abbado, Bruno Bartoletti, Leonard Bernstein, Semyon Bychkov, Daniele Gatti, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Carlo Maria Giulini, Peter Maag, Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano, Michel Plasson and Christian Thielemann and has recorded on CD and DVD for the labels EMI, DECCA and RAITRADE.
