Cellia Costea was born in Piatra Neamţ, Romania, into a family of musicians. She studied at the Liceo Musicale of Piatra Neamţ with Elena Botez and later obtained a Diploma at the Music University of Bucarest. At the beginning of her career she won first prizes in international competitions including: Competition Francisco Vinas- Barcelona, the International Singers Competition in Beijing, the Monserrat Caballé Competition and the JullianGayarre Pamplona in Spain.
Then she made her debut as Desdemona in Otello in Bucharest and with the participation in the production of Le Nozze di Figaro in Klagenfurt as Countess of Almaviva.
Since then she started the collaboration with the most prestigious Opera houses in the world: the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Frankfurth Opera, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Oslo Opera House, Royal Opera Amsterdam, Opera Municipal de Marseille , Opéra Royal de Wallonie de Liege, Hanover Theater, NCPA Beijing.
She sang Liù in Turandot at the London Royal Opera House of Covent Garden and at Liceu Opera of Barcelona, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and the Countess of Almaviva in Le Nozze of Figaro at Wiener Staatsoper.
In 2012 she sang Marguerite in Faust at the Greek National Opera of Athens and Tosca at the Teatro Bellini of Catania, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing and at Concertgebouw of Amsterdam. She made her debut as Leonora in Il Trovatore at the Festival Odeon of Herodes Atticus and in a production of Murder in the Cathedral of I. Pizzetti with a DVD recording in Milan Cathedral.
In 2013-14 she enjoyed her considerable personal success in the production of Don Carlo in the Emilia Theatres where they recorded a DVD with Unitel. She returns to the Greek National Opera in Athens to debut as Elena in I Vespri Siciliani and debuts the role of Madama Butterfly at the Opéra of Nice.
In 2015 she sang Amelia / Simon Boccanegra Opera de Toulon, Floria Tosca / Tosca and Mimi in La Bohème in Athens Greek National Opera, Aida in Sassari Ente De Carolis and Aida at the Seoul Arts Center, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana at the National Opera Chile.
In 2016 she sang Tosca at the Opera de Toulon, Aida and Ciò Ciò San in Madama Butterfly at the Greek National Opera of Athens, Tosca at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Amelia in Simon Boccanegra Opera of Craiova, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera in Sassari Ente De Carolis.
In 2017 she is Tosca at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dusseldorf and Aida at the Opera National de Chile, Ciò Ciò San in Madama Butterfly and Leonora in Trovatore for Greek National Opera, Aida in Arena of Verona, Tosca in Stuttgart, Leonora in Trovatore at Frankfurt Opera.
In 2018 she made her debut at Bayerischestaatsoper of Munich in the role of Amelia - Un Ballo in Maschera where she is also Elena in Mefistofele, she is Elisabetta in Don Carlo at Bucharest National Opera and Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana at Deutsche Oper Am Rhein.
In 2019 she will be Amelia in Simon Boccanegra ( January 2019) and Adalgisa in Norma ( May/June 2019) at Greek National Opera, Ciò Ciò San in Madama Butterfly at Petruzzelli of Bari conducted by G. Bisanti, directed by R. Abbado, Maddalena di Coigny in Andrea Chenier at Opera de Toulon and Opera de Nice Cote D’Azur.
Next season she will be Amelia in Un Ballo in Machera at Petruzzelli of Bari, Tosca and Elisabetta de Valois in Don Carlo at Greek National Opera.
